Larry C. Johnson, CFRE, has over twenty years of direct involvement with charitable fund development and nonprofit management, with fourteen of those years at the senior executive level and is the author of the groundbreaking book, The Eight Principles of Sustainable Fundraising. Passionate in helping nonprofits achieve the highest levels of sustainable funding, Larry has enabled a number of fund development and institutional advancement programs move to the next level of excellence.
A graduate of both Vanderbilt and Yale Universities, Larry’s career began in Fortune 100 program management before moving into charitable fundraising with Ketchum, Inc., as fundraising counsel. Larry subsequently served as chief advancement officer for four colleges and universities before founding M.E. Grace in 2007 with a mission to help nonprofits appreciate their true fundraising potential and show them how to achieve it. As a consultant, Larry has worked with the staff, volunteers and boards of hundreds nonprofits in education, the arts, youth, community service, health care and faith-based organizations.
Larry is a nationally recognized consultant, frequent speaker and trainer and has led workshops, seminars and conferences for the Council for the Advancement of Education (CASE), the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Idaho Hospital Association, the Idaho Nonprofit Center, the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce, Intermountain Community Bank, Panhandle State Bank and Clear Rock Capital. Larry has been recognized as one of the top 30 Most Effective Fundraising Consultants in the USA by “The Giving Show,” the most listened-to radio program in the philanthropic sector. Larry was named Outstanding Development Executive in 2010 by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
A long-time advocate of sustainable philanthropy as an essential component of a healthy and stable society, Larry holds the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) distinction. He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning and BoardSource, as well as serves on the board of the Southwest Idaho Planned Giving Council.
Larry lives near Boise, Idaho where he and his wife, Connie, devote time to exploring the Rockies on horseback, hiking in the Sawtooths and backcountry skiing. An amateur outdoor photographer of the West, he also enjoys seeking out new locales astride his Harley.
